WERE YOU AWARE THAT IN CASE OF ANY VISION OR EYE-RELATED EMERGENCY, YOUR OPTOMETRIST SHOULD BE THE FIRST POINT OF CONTACT?

We understand emergencies can happen at any time which is why we strive to provide prompt assistance. Our tools and instruments enable us to diagnose ocular emergencies accurately, and we can usually see you sooner than a hospital emergency room or MediCentre.

Some examples of eye emergencies are:

  • Foreign particles or objects in the eye

  • Eye discomfort or pain

  • Sudden loss of vision or blurry vision

  • Sudden loss of peripheral vision

  • Seeing flashes or floaters in your vision

  • Chemical exposure on or around your eyes

  • Swelling surrounding the eye

WHEN SHOULD I SEEK OUTSIDE HELP?

APART FROM DIAGNOSING THE EMERGENCY, YOUR OPTOMETRIST IS EQUIPPED TO MAKE TIMELY REFERRALS TO AN OPHTHALMOLOGIST.

In case of an emergency outside our regular office hours, please proceed to the nearest hospital emergency department. If you're in Edmonton, we recommend visiting the Royal Alex Hospital as they have a dedicated Eye Clinic.
